Connect ZenMode to ChatGPT (MCP): ask about your campaigns from a chat

Add ZenMode as a custom MCP server in ChatGPT, approve it on a ZenMode page, then ask about your campaigns, contacts and conversations.

What this integration is

ZenMode has a remote MCP server. ChatGPT can connect to it, so you can ask about your ZenMode account in a chat: how your campaigns are performing, who a contact is, what was said in a LinkedIn conversation.

Server address: https://www.zen-mode.io/api/mcp

Unlike the API-key setups for coding tools, ChatGPT connects the way claude.ai does: you approve the connection on a ZenMode page while signed in, and it is tied to one of your API keys. It is the same server and the same tools as the Claude guide, which lists every tool and its limits.

The safety rule

An AI assistant cannot send a message or a connection request through ZenMode. There is no tool for it. The only way anyone gets contacted is by being added to one of your campaigns, and the campaign then works through them inside your daily and weekly limits, your business hours and your pacing.

Every connection is read only unless you choose otherwise on the approval page. A key that is set to read only keeps the connection at read only, whatever you pick there.

Before you start

  1. You need a ZenMode plan of Practitioner or above (a free trial counts as the plan you are trialling). Novice accounts are told so with an upgrade link.
  2. Create an API key under MCP / API in the dashboard, and leave Let AI assistants make changes unticked unless you want ChatGPT to be able to add people to campaigns or change targeting.
  3. A ChatGPT account that can add a custom MCP server. OpenAI decides which plans can, and what each can do (it has limited write actions to some plans), and it changes that. Read OpenAI's current help page on developer mode and MCP apps before you start.

Add ZenMode to ChatGPT

These are the steps we ran on 7 October 2026 on a ChatGPT Plus account, on the web. ChatGPT's menus change, so treat the names as a guide.

  1. In ChatGPT, open Plugins in the sidebar, click Add, then Add custom MCP server.
  2. Name it ZenMode. Under Connection choose Server URL and enter https://www.zen-mode.io/api/mcp. Leave Authentication on OAuth.
  3. Open Advanced OAuth settings if you want to look. ChatGPT finds ZenMode's sign-in details on its own and chooses Dynamic Client Registration; you do not need to enter a client ID or secret.
  4. Under Default scopes, ChatGPT ticks zenmode.read, zenmode.write and zenmode. We unticked the last two and kept zenmode.read, and that is the setup we tested. Leave them that way if you only want ChatGPT to look.
  5. Tick I understand and want to continue (ChatGPT's warning that a custom server should be one you trust), then click Create as a plugin, then Continue to ZenMode.
  6. On the ZenMode page that opens, sign in if asked, choose Read only, choose the API key to connect with, and click Allow. ChatGPT returns to its Plugins page, and ZenMode shows your ZenMode account as connected.
  7. Open the ZenMode plugin and click Try in chat, or type @ZenMode at the start of a message.

What we tested, and what we did not

On 7 October 2026 we ran the steps above on a ChatGPT Plus account against the live server, with zenmode.read only:

  • ChatGPT found ZenMode's sign-in details, registered itself, and finished the approval. Its request used the PKCE S256 method and named https://www.zen-mode.io/api/mcp as the resource.
  • In a chat we asked which campaign has the best reply rate. ChatGPT called ZenMode's read tools and answered with figures from the account, and said nothing had been changed.

We did not test ChatGPT with the write scopes, with a Business, Enterprise or Edu workspace, or with the Pro plan, and we could not read OpenAI's own help page on plans while writing this.

Example prompts

  • "@ZenMode Which of my campaigns has the best reply rate?"
  • "@ZenMode Find the contact Priya Shah and show where she stands."
  • "@ZenMode Read my conversation with Priya Shah and draft a reply I can send myself."
  • "@ZenMode Can my account take more people today, and if not, when does that lift?"

Limits

Each API key can make 60 tool calls a minute. If the connection allows changes, they are capped at 10 a minute and 300 a day, and at most 500 people a day can be added through an assistant. These are the assistant's own call limits; your LinkedIn daily and weekly limits are separate and are applied by your campaigns, as always.

FAQ

Can ChatGPT send LinkedIn messages or connection requests through ZenMode?

No. No ZenMode tool does that. An assistant with a connection that allows changes can add people to a campaign, and your campaign reaches them later under your own daily and weekly limits, business hours and pacing.

Which ZenMode plans include the MCP server?

Practitioner and above, the same as the ZenMode API. A free trial counts as the plan you are trialling. Novice accounts are told so with an upgrade link, and their API keys are kept so they work again as soon as the account moves up.

Can ChatGPT see my teammates' campaigns?

No. It sees only the account that owns the API key it connected with. Workspace members' campaigns are not reachable, even for a workspace owner.

How do I disconnect ChatGPT?

Remove the ZenMode plugin in ChatGPT, or revoke the API key you chose in the ZenMode dashboard. Revoking the key ends the connection straight away.

Does it need my LinkedIn password?

No. ZenMode never asks for LinkedIn credentials, and nothing in this connection touches them.
